Pejorative Words

Steps:Part one- Select a word that has impacted you or others you know and illustrate the multiple meanings of the word in the framework of different social contexts. Complete the Prewriting Activity.Part two- Explain whether you agree with Naylor and other authors read that the meaning of the word depends on who uses it, the person to whom it is directed, and for what purpose. Each body paragraph will focus on one reason why you think pejorative words can or cannot be reclaimed. Use authors read in this unit to support your position. You can also draw from personal examples and observations. Discuss evidence that contradicts your argument from at least one critic. In this part of the essay, you will neutrally summarize the authors point AND then explain what you think of this evidence (Do you disagree? Do you acknowledge that it has some merit, but still hold on to your original position?).
