Sears Canada is closing. In doing so, it appears as though 16,000 workers will lose part of their pension savings. While the case will be taken to court, it appears as though the employees will not get any priority over other creditors when the assets are divided up in bankruptcy court.
Some claim that the government should take action to protect the former employees and preserve their pensions. Others say that the employees should have known the risks associated with a defined benefit pension plan.
Create a short (3-5 paragraph) essay in favour or opposed to government action on this issue. Your conclusion can be the government should not create specific laws to govern this situation, or that government should not change the terms of a valid contract once it has been completed.
